The 10 Music Festivals in Europe with the Nicest Weather

Ranking Europe's biggest music festivals by their typical weather. We score every festival on its long-term climatology — 21–28°C and under 1mm of rain is the sweet spot.

How nice weather is calculated

Every festival gets a "nice weather" score between 0 and 100. We start from a perfect 100 for each main-stage day, then apply small penalties based on how far the temperature and rain deviate from ideal conditions. Daytime comfort, nighttime comfort, rainfall and overall cloud cover all contribute. The scores for every festival day are averaged to give a single number that represents how pleasant the event typically feels.

The data comes from the Open-Meteo historical archive — roughly 15 years of daily records matched to the exact venue coordinates and calendar dates. That long window smooths out freak years and gives a reliable picture of what attendees can expect.

Methodology

Our scoring is built around two hard criteria that we consider the sweet spot for open-air music festivals:

  • 21–28°C daytime high — warm enough for light clothing and outdoor dancing, but not so hot that heat exhaustion becomes a risk. Temperatures below 21°C get a cold penalty; above 28°C a heat penalty. We also factor in the "feels like" temperature so humidity does not sneak in an uncomfortable day undetected.
  • Under 1mm of rain — effectively dry. Once daily rainfall exceeds 1mm you are likely to need a poncho, and stages can get muddy. Precipitation above that threshold is penalised progressively.

Nights are treated separately: the ideal range is 10–20°C. Anything below 10°C makes camping chilly; above 20°C makes tent sleeping difficult. Cloud-cover and rain probability add smaller adjustments. The result is a score where 80+ means reliably excellent conditions and 50+ still means decent odds of a comfortable weekend.

A note on climatology vs. forecast

These rankings reflect the typical weather a festival sees, based on a 15-year history at its venue. Any given year can break the pattern — a freak storm, an unseasonable cold snap. For the live forecast as the festival approaches, open the festival's page and you'll see real-time odds within 15 days of the gates opening.
