Detailed Graspop 2026 Weather Recap

Now that we have all made it home from Graspop Metal Meeting, it is safe to say we survived a scorching and stormy edition in Dessel. This year was significantly hotter than the usual Belgian June, with temperatures consistently staying about ten degrees above the typical baseline. We kicked things off on Thursday with a beautiful, dry heat of 31°C that felt like a t-shirt weather dream. However, Friday turned quite oppressive as the humidity kicked in, making that 33°C feels-like a stifling 37°C before a proper downpour arrived to soak the grounds. Saturday gave us a brief window of relief with only a few passing showers, but Sunday finished with another round of persistent rain and heavy air that felt much hotter than the mercury suggested. If you packed plenty of sunscreen and a reliable poncho, you likely fared well despite the sweat and the occasional mud. Even the nights remained unusually warm, meaning those thin sleeping bags were finally enough for once. It was a weekend of extreme highs and high humidity, making for a gritty but legendary atmosphere in the pits.

About Graspop

Graspop Metal Meeting is Belgium's biggest metal festival, held every June in the Kempen heathland village of Dessel. Around 50,000 people a day pack out the site for four days of rock, metal and hardcore across multiple stages, with a famously well-organised Belgian production.

Typical Graspop weather

Mid-to-late June in northern Belgium is warm but unsettled: highs of 21–24°C, nights of 12–14°C, and a regular chance of afternoon showers or thunderstorms rolling in off the North Sea.

How weather shapes Graspop

The Kempen's sandy soil drains better than most North European festival sites, so mud is less of a problem than at Glastonbury or Wacken. Thunderstorms are the bigger concern — they can be dramatic and have caused short stage delays in past years. Sunburn catches metal-clad fans out on the rare hot days, since shade is scarce on the open fields.
