Smukfest — 'the most beautiful festival' — is set inside the Bøgeskoven beech forest above Skanderborg in Jutland. Around 50,000 people gather every August for a week of Danish and international acts under a canopy of trees.
Early August in Skanderborg is typically mild and changeable: highs of 20–23°C, nights around 12–14°C, and a steady chance of passing showers. Pure heatwaves are rare and so are full washouts.
The forest setting is a huge weather buffer — the trees soften rain, block wind and give shade on hot afternoons, which is why Smukfest stays walkable even when the rest of Denmark is soaked. The same canopy traps humidity though, so muggy evenings after a shower are part of the experience.
