Sónar is Barcelona's pioneering festival of advanced music and digital art, running since 1994. Across three days (and nights) it splits between Sónar by Day's exhibition-hall complex and Sónar by Night's giant warehouse venue, making it a benchmark for electronic music globally.
Mid-June in Barcelona is hot and sticky: highs of 26–28°C, nights still around 18–20°C, and very little rain. The Mediterranean humidity makes everything feel a few degrees warmer than the thermometer says.
Most of Sónar happens indoors or under cover, so the weather affects the journey more than the music. The heat does push the daytime programme toward shaded courtyards and air-conditioned halls, and by Sónar by Night the cooler air of the Fira venue is part of the appeal.
