Roskilde Festival is Northern Europe's largest music and arts festival, a non-profit gathering on the fields outside Roskilde that has run since 1971. Eight days of camping, art and a famously eclectic line-up draw around 130,000 people each year.
Early July in Roskilde sits in the heart of the Danish summer. Daytime highs usually land between 18 and 23°C, nights drop to a chilly 11–14°C, and rain is hit-or-miss — short showers and the odd thunderstorm are common, with the occasional washout week.
The site is open farmland with very little shelter, so a wet week turns the camping areas into the mud the festival is half-famous for. Heatwaves are rarer but brutal when they hit, since shade is scarce. Most veterans pack rubber boots, a rain jacket and sunscreen in the same bag.
