Graspop Metal Meeting is Belgium's biggest metal festival, held every June in the Kempen heathland village of Dessel. Around 50,000 people a day pack out the site for four days of rock, metal and hardcore across multiple stages, with a famously well-organised Belgian production.
Mid-to-late June in northern Belgium is warm but unsettled: highs of 21–24°C, nights of 12–14°C, and a regular chance of afternoon showers or thunderstorms rolling in off the North Sea.
The Kempen's sandy soil drains better than most North European festival sites, so mud is less of a problem than at Glastonbury or Wacken. Thunderstorms are the bigger concern — they can be dramatic and have caused short stage delays in past years. Sunburn catches metal-clad fans out on the rare hot days, since shade is scarce on the open fields.
