Always in the bag
- Refillable water bottle — sealed or empty so it gets through the gate.
- Sunscreen SPF 50 — even a cloudy festival day is six hours outdoors.
- Power bank — your phone is your ticket, your map and your group chat.
- Earplugs — for the front rail, and for the ride home afterwards.
- More socks than days.
Sun and heat
Highs average 18°C, so heat is rarely the main problem — but the warmest day still reaches about 19°C and shade is limited at most sites.
- A wide-brim hat and sunglasses beat a cap for full-day sets.
- Loose, light-coloured long sleeves cover more skin and feel cooler than a vest.
Rain kit — don't skip this
Rain falls on roughly 40% of Distortion days, averaging 1.7mm a day and about 8.3mm across the main days.
- Waterproof shoes you can walk and dance in, and dry socks waiting at home.
- A real rain jacket and a cheap poncho — the poncho covers your bag in a crowd.
- A small folding bag for the wet layer once the shower passes.
- A dry bag or zip bag for phone, power bank and travel card.
Evening layers
Evening lows average 12°C, with the coldest festival night typically near 11°C (Fri 5 Jun). A proper hoodie or light jacket is worth carrying — standing still for the last set at these temperatures is colder than it sounds.
- A layer that packs down small enough to carry from doors open to last set.
- A windproof jacket — evenings here bite once you stop moving.
- Comfortable shoes for the walk or the night bus home.
- A hoodie you don't mind losing.
Why the Distortion site matters
Distortion happens on asphalt, so rain means puddles and slippery streets rather than mud, and there is almost nowhere to shelter between parties. The bigger factor is the evening drop: daytime street parties can feel summery while the same night on the harbour front is single-digit cold with wind. A light waterproof shell and a warm layer you can tie round your waist cover almost every Distortion day.
