Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival is held over two identical weekends at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California. Since 1999 it has grown into a 125,000-per-day desert spectacle that sets the global festival aesthetic.
Mid-April in the Coachella Valley is desert spring: bone-dry, near-zero rain, daytime highs of 28–33°C and nights that can drop to 12–15°C. Afternoon winds whipping dust across the polo fields are routine.
Heat is the dominant factor — sunburn, dehydration and queues at water-refill stations shape how people pace the day. Dust storms occasionally shut stages early, and the sharp temperature drop after sunset catches first-timers in shorts and crop tops off-guard. A hat, electrolytes and a layer for the night ride home are the real essentials.
